Who is Tali Lopez?

Bio

Tali Lopez was born in The Bronx, New York on June 4th, 1975, and raised in San Diego. He is a self-taught artist. “I like to think that I’ve always had an eye for beautiful things, but who knew that painting would become my life's passion”. Tali’s work tends to be very emotional and suggestive. He uses vibrant colors to express the experiences that form his day-to-day life. Tali often overlaps drawing, painting, text, and image into his works, often blurring the lines between abstraction and figuration. “If I had to describe my work, I would say it’s a mix between neo-expressionism, abstract expressionism, abstract and contemporary”. He often harkens back to the days of Basquiat and Warhol, two of his favorites, to draw inspiration from.

His Work

For his pieces Tali utilizes acrylics, oils, resin, ink, pencil, markers, crayons, and other household chemicals. Although he has painted on canvas, he prefers wood panels and primarily uses acrylic paints to create large provocative pieces.

Community Outreach

Whenever possible, Tali donates his works to non-profit organizations to auction off and raise funds for his community.

On February 21, 2020, he proudly donated a piece to a fundraiser benefiting Being Alive, a nonprofit in San Diego that raises money to support people living with HIV and AIDS. Tali is proud to say that this piece was auctioned off and sold to the first lady of San Diego: Katherine Stuart Faulconer. The painting now hangs proudly in her and the Mayor’s home.
